I am planning the third one in Texas April 8, 2024.

I saw the first in 1979 in my own backyard. The second in 2017 in Idaho.

Hopefully will have clear skies again for next one.

Aghghgh indeed! I do think it’s good to plan local events as not everyone is in a position to travel to the path of totality. Most of the people in the US will in fact see this as a partial eclipse. However, there is a responsibility on those arranging events to inform that even 97% is NOT the same as a total solar eclipse. A good thing to do is to point to where options are available for traveling into the path, and then outline a viewing experience for the partial for those who cannot travel on the day.

A guy in my town is planning a bunch of events here for people to observe the deep partial eclipse. I tried to tell him that it was a big mistake, that instead he should be organizing buses or something to drive down to totality, but he insists “97% is good enough for me.” Aaaugghh.

Her works including eclipse preparations, travel logs, and sun-moon-self connections demonstrate a worldly concern and interpersonal compassion. Her writings have found a way to bring the public closer to understanding the need for people to pull together and share their hopes, fears, dreams, and schemes, and still give me the impetus to fire up my students in the classroom as well as my community. Dr.Russo’s works support people practically and lovingly on so many psychological, emotional, cognitive, intuitive, and interpersonal levels and degrees. Just look at what she’s produced since in almost 20years !!!

Comment on The Path of Totality Tour – Expressions of Interest by Kate https://beingintheshadow.com/2017/01/05/path-of-totality-tour/#comment-53231 Fri, 06 Jan 2017 14:15:26 +0000 https://beingintheshadow.com/?p=1903#comment-53231 In reply to Kate.

Dave – I see the problem here! My tour of the path of totality is actually ME touring the path of totality, helping eclipse co-ordinators with planning and running a wide range of events to engage stakeholders and communities about the eclipse. I’m traveling for four months across the whole path to do this.

I see now that you were suggesting that I bring a tour group to Rabun to view the eclipse at your event. Let’s communicate via email as this is clearly a misunderstanding. While I am actually leading an eclipse tour, I will be based in Grand Teton National Park and all arrangements have been made for well over a year.

Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Just another tour planning thought..

If your tour group’s primary mode of transportation is air, I could meet your group at the Atlanta airport and take them up to Rabun County. Renting tour busses in Atlanta is no problem.

Also, the primary contact in Rabun County for eclipse planning stuff is Teka Earnhardt, head honcho of the Rabun County Tourism & Development Authority. (See links on top of Rabun County Events Page. 706-982-4754) Her eclipse committee has been doing planning since last summer.

Thanks,
Dave
