ECLIPSE WEEK IN CAIRNS – 15-20 February 2016

It’s Eclipse Week in Cairns! I am back in the region for one week only. I will be partnering with James Cook University and Night Sky Secrets to do a range of lectures and interactive workshops, to give people a chance to re-live the excitement of the 2012 total eclipse and to inspire others to do what they love to do.

The focal point of Eclipse Week will be the free JCU Alumni Public Lecture, where I will describe how I have been able to carve an alternative career path out of my passion for eclipses. This will be an inspiring presentation appealing to a broad audience.

Here is an overview of all of the events during Eclipse Week – keep an eye on my FB page also as I will be updating that regularly. PLEASE NOTE – ALL EVENTS REQUIRE PRE-REGISTRATION. PLEASE DO NOT SIMPLY TURN UP!

The total solar eclipse in 2012 captivated the region and generated an estimated $130 million dollars for the local economy, with an additional 60,000 visitors coming to experience the eclipse.

I played a role preparing locals and visitors, sharing information about the experience and ensuring that people took time out of their usual daily activities to stop and ponder the Universe. It was incredible to be in the region on that day, as the whole population went outdoors and looked up on the morning of 14th November 2012. I still get goosebumps thinking about that.

Many locals contributed to my survey and interview research before and after the eclipse, and these stories are included in my second book Totality: The Total Solar Eclipse of 2012 in FNQ, which will be available to purchase at all of my week-long events.

Register for one of my events, come along and say hi!
